There are far more Armourers' Tools than we
might ever hope to cover. It is not our intent
to examine or catalogue every type of screwdriver or
gauge, only the more interesting Enfield-related tools
that pique our interest.
Anyone interested
in gun tools would do well to pick up Gun
Tools: Their History & Identification,
Vols 1
& 2, by Dorsey & Shaffer. Each volume
has about 400 pages, 600 photos and covers about 300
years worth of gun tools - with no duplications. An
interesting read and well worth having on your bookshelf.
Short
Magazine Lee-Enfield Rifle Action Implement, Mk II
Long before combination folding tools became a must-have
item in a Sharper Image catalog, the British Army was
issuing multi-purpose tools for use with Snider
muskets, Martini-Henry, Metford and Enfield rifles.
The 1904 SMLE combination tool is a marvel of compact
simplicity.
Lewis Machine Gun Combination Tool
A combination tool that incorporates a spring tension
gauge, a punch and an unusual screwdriver. And
if you fool around with the SMLE Mk III, you're going
to want to have that screwdriver.
Trigger Pull Spring Gauge
Once you've seen the British one, you should be on
the lookout for the Russian one manufactured by Colt
in 1917.
Foresight Adjustment Cramp
A not very elegant name for a rather interesting (and
useful) tool. Turns out that there were at least
five (5) variations.
