Trigger Pull Spring Gauge

This brass gauge is marked from 1 to 20 pounds in 1/2 pound increments with numerals marked every two pounds.  Broad arrow marked.  OAL 3 1/2"

Manufacturer's mark SALTER with an S incorporated within the logo.

May be stamped MADE IN ENGLAND.  Rifles exported from England post WWI (1914-1918) were required to be so marked.

POINTS TO WATCH FOR: A very similar Maxim-Vickers Machinegun Spring Gauge was made circa 1917 by Chatillion Scale Co., a Colt subcontractor, destined for Czarist Russia and the Maxim-Vickers MG then under production in England.  When the Czar was deposed, many US-contracted items were embargoed, including Remington and Westinghouse Mosin-Nagant rifles then under production. The Chatillion unit has split rings rather than string.  Marked RUSSIAN under a diamond containing the letter "C".
