Pistol
162
Pistol, Cash, captive bolt. Produced by Accles & Shelvoke
of Birmingham. Commonly known as a "horse killer", these
pistols used a .22 caliber blank to propel a heavy bolt forward. They
were used by
military Veterinarians
to humanely kill horses, mules, and other military animals. Skennerton
in "British Small Arms of WWII - P-28" indicates that in
March of 1944, the War Office ordered 108 of these pistols (at 6 pounds
sterling@) from Accles & Shelvoke. Overall appears unissued with
98% finish. Fascinating.
